beacuse of the thick upper cloud, it has produced only
occasional diffuse shadows. The sun hasn’t been strong
enough to register on the sunshine recorder. Max temp 18.1

afternoon.

the Royal Met Soc in Reading today, travelling by train
from Macclesfield but I got only as far as Buxton before
I had to turn back. The Cat & Fiddle road from Buxton to
Macclesfield was closed and also the Buxton to Leek road.
I think the problem was that big artics were getting
stuck on hills due to wheelspin on the hard-packed snow and
were blocking the roads. There was a good number of 2WD cars
and vans stuck on only relatively gentle inclines. I was
very grateful for 4WD 🙂 Buxton has turned into a big
lorry park this morning.
